Things to Consider When Buying Cheap Marijuana Seeds

Sometimes cheap seeds equals bad genes.

While it’s easy to get caught up in analyzing the best quality cannabis seeds and proper care for your plants, understand that genetics has the final say over quality. Cheap marijuana seeds with bad genes will yield low-quality stuff, or possibly not produce much at all.

You get what you pay for.

For example, bad genes can lead your plant to produce poor yields.

Naturally, bad gene cannabis seeds also produce a more pungent and less pleasant taste. It’s no coincidence that “cheap marijuana seeds” are sometimes bad gene seeds.

Are you growing indoors or outdoors?

According to some who grow cannabis, the decision to grow indoor plants or outdoor plants is determined by weather (plants usually like tropical temperatures) as well as legality.

The prevalence of stealth growing cannabis in states where cannabis is illegal has also led to greater technology for indoor growing—and all the more so in recent years with extra legalization in the U.S.

The major differences between indoor and outdoor cannabis plants include:

  • Indoor growing lets you control all factors.
  • Indoor growing can be more expensive due to equipment.
  • Outdoor plants tend to be larger.
  • Outdoor plants require less maintenance.

Look at your climate, budget, equipment, and how much time you can commit to growing your weed.

Types of Cannabis Seeds

Another factor to consider is how the seller describes their seeds and what those labels mean.

A cannabis seed has specific genes that determine THC/CBD production, as well as size, disease resistance, and other content in the yield.

Picking the right strains to begin with will help to avoid disappointing results!

Male and female cannabis seeds

Cannabis is a dioecious plant, which means it can have male and female characteristics, as well as the ability to self-pollinate. Many growers avoid male cannabis plants, because of the risk of the males releasing pollen near female plants, which triggers the production of compromised seeds.

We don’t want bad seeds.

Male plants also produce less overall THC content in comparison because they have less in the way of terpenes and cannabinoids than females. Feminized seeds are the primary choice for beginners because they’re easier to work with.

  • Feminized cannabis plants flower based on a regular schedule of outdoor lighting.
  • Male plants can create new strains, repel pests, restore soil, and help the species survive.

Most of the time, you’ll be using female plants to grow your own weed; you can read more on this here.

Self-pollinating seeds

Some cannabis plants are both male and female and can self-pollinate. Some growers may take advantage of this aspect to recreate their favorite female plant.

It depends on what you want.

However, using only self-pollinating plants may increase the risk of inbreeding, which compromises the gene pool. Keeping male plants can counteract the effect.

Autoflowering marijuana seeds

Autoflowering refers to special cannabis seeds that grow quickly—only requiring two to four weeks for flowering and no particular lighting schedule for aging.

Beginner growers like autoflower seeds because of their convenience, easy to grow “stealth” abilities, and their tendency to grow indoors rather well.

Still, you can also plant them outdoors all year round in an ideal climate. Outdoors they will benefit from the nutrients from nearby soil, as well as UV radiation, which enhances resin and potency.

Weed Seed Growing Tips

Experienced growers prefer more control and diversity, and will look for pricier seeds with specific properties.

Beginners just want to grow their first few plants and receive a good yield.
Cheap marijuana seeds are not only economic but will turn out easier to grow because they are uncomplicated to manage, especially autoflower seeds.

Do you want high-quality marijuana?

Once you gain experience and confidence in growing, especially growing weed outdoors and using more complicated cannabis strains, you may want to look at higher price weed seeds.

By nature, potent seeds sell for a higher price.

Seeds that lead to better tasting and smelling marijuana plants will also fetch a higher price than, you know, the dank stuff you used to smoke at your friend’s house.

THC vs. CBD—What’s the difference?

As you’re probably aware, most weed strains are usually high in either THC or CBD.

  • THC is the part that gets you “high.”
  • CBD has health benefits without the high effect.

Depending on the cheap marijuana seeds you’re looking to buy, the levels of THC and CBD can be drastically different.

Weigh up what effects you want from your finished weed product when you’re deciding which weed seeds to buy.

Indica vs. sativa—What’s the difference?

You may also hear references to indica-dominant versus sativa-dominant cannabis plants from seed banks. Most plants will have a combination of indica and sativa genes, though one is more dominant than the other.

For example, a strain might be 80 percent indica and 20 percent sativa. But what’s the difference between the two anyway?

  • Indica plants usually offer a characteristic “full-body high.”
  • Sativa plants usually offer a more cerebral “head high.”

So if you want to be glued to the couch with a relaxed body, look for indica-dominant strains. If you prefer to be creative, active, and thoughtful when you’re stoned, look into sativa-dominant strains.

Of interest to growers, however, is that sativa plants take longer to grow and yield fewer flowers than indicas.

Weigh up your growing restrictions, flowering time, and the effects you want from the finished product when deciding which strains to grow.

Cannabinoid content

While high-quality seeds are loaded with high THC level for enthusiastic growers, they can only go high because THC and CBD share the same gene, and there are ratio-limits to consider.

For instance, for THC the peak is about 35 percent (dry weight) or less. For CBD, the peak is about 25 percent or less. For strains with both THC and CBD, the limits may also be less than the highest possible peak.

No worries though—most banks list the cannabinoid percentage on the description, usually determined by the highly effective system of high-performance liquid chromatography, or even thin-layer chromatography.

Once you have the percentage data, you can estimate the content per gram, assuming one gram contains the suggested percentage of THC/CBD. Therefore, if one gram is 1000 milligrams, you multiply the percentage by 1000mg to get an approximate figure of milligrams.

Now that you know the approximate CBD/THC content, you can creatively interpret the specific effects—from recreational highs to medicinal therapies.

Cheap Cannabis Seed FAQs

Is buying weed seeds online safe?

If you’re reading this from states in the U.S. where cannabis is banned, you may be wondering if you’re wasting your time. Not so!

Practically all the companies practice stealth shipping when necessary.

You will receive your seeds in disguise, such as in a card, or another fake product.

Look carefully for the seeds.

Great care is taken to protect the private content from any postal worker. The package should not look suspicious. Companies that ship these items have the legal right to do so, and marijuana/seeds are perfectly legal to handle in their state.

Is buying weed seeds legal?

Technically speaking, seeds are not illegal in cannabis-banned states, unless they come germinated. Still, it’s not unheard of for post offices to seize seed packages, though this is usually the result of cheap shipping.

Most companies also offer repackaging insurance policies, meaning if your package is lost, you can request another.

Packages that don’t look suspicious are usually not checked.

You can also minimize the chance of getting caught by using Bitcoin services and, of course, not discussing your purchase with anyone online.

Where can I buy feminized seeds online?

We recommend ILGM and Crop King Seeds, simply because they cover the gamut of both cheap seeds and harder-to-find strains if you have more specific needs.

A good seed bank is hard to find!

There are other sources, such as deep web shops, but they are far less reputable and safe, considering the lack of professionalism.

How much are weed seeds?

The price can vary greatly according to strain.

On average, the price of a single seed is between $4 and $9. Quality and type can also influence the price. Autoflower seeds and feminized seeds also sell at a higher price than regular seeds.

It all depends on the type of seed you’re buying, the quality of the strain, and where you’re ordering it from.

Conclusion—The Best Cheap Seeds For Sale

The best place to buy weed seeds for sale is I Love Growing Marijuana for the price point, but Crop King Seeds is a close second place for sure.

The simple fact is that many growers know what they want, having done their own research, and are willing to pay slightly more for a specific strain with a good reputation.

It’s a good idea.

If you’ve ever lamented about price, the availability of good marijuana, and other existential questions—and presumably while very high—consider growing your own THC/CBD plants.

It’s far more satisfying to consume the weed strain you’ve grown with your own hands!

How to start growing marijuana plants?

You can start growing marijuana plants from one of two primary sources; either from clone or from seed – both methods have their pros and cons.

What are marijuana clones?

Generally, commercial cannabis producers will plant thousands of seeds of one strain and choose the best plant or “phenotype.” They will then stabilize the pheno over many generations to produce a commercially viable cultivar. This process is often called “phenofinding” or “strain hunting” by both professionals and hobbyists alike. Cuttings (or cannabis clones) will be taken from that individual cannabis plant, enabling consistent genetics for mass production (think of a McDonalds’ Cheeseburger – these are exactly the same across the globe).

For the typical homegrower, it’s much easier from a practical and logistical perspective to use seeds rather than clones. It makes more sense financially and will usually produce better overall results. Stronger cannabis plants, less prone to disease.

Why grow weed from seed?

In nature, marijuana seeds, like human beings, contain the combined genetic information of both parents, expressing different parental traits and often new, surprising traits that both parents lack. This constant recombination of genes is the cornerstone of evolution. The cannabis seeds purchased from a reputable seed bank are specially selected offspring, stabilized for uniformity but still subject to the laws of nature. Your Homegrown seeds will produce very similar plants, but can still throw up some interesting and exciting phenos.

Growing from a good stock of pot seeds will usually produce a stronger cannabis plant with higher quality genetics and, importantly, will likely produce bigger yields of better cannabis.

You can learn how to grow marijuana from seed in our A Beginner’s Guide Series with Kyle Kushman. Learn from the best to grow the best!

Where to buy weed seeds online?

Marijuana seeds, USA. As with all types of cultivation, people find it incredibly rewarding to consume the fruits of their labour, never more so than with cannabis.

Our customers and community members often talk about the joy of being able to nurture their cannabis plant all the way from the seed to the final harvest and take great pride in their involvement at each step of the process. Quite simply, we boast the best marijuana seeds for sale anywhere in the world.

Best place to buy marijuana seeds online USA

While weed seeds for sale are now much easier to find than ever before, you should remain vigilant, careful and open-eyed. All is often not what it seems. Many claim to be the best seed banks or the best place to buy marijuana seeds online in the USA, but few actually offer stable genetics. There are some sites that claim to be american seed banks, but are actually European.

These cannabis seed banks online ship from Europe, and you can find that your seeds will take many, many weeks to arrive, if they arrive at all! Besides the reduced chance of a successful delivery, international shipments are exceptionally bad for seeds, for a number of reasons. These range from temperature fluctuations in transit to actual physical damage. Reduce your risk – make sure you’re buying cannabis seeds USA.

At Homegrown, we’re proud to partner with American institutions like the Veterans Cannabis Coalition, industry titans like Steve D’Angelo and celebrated marijuana grow experts like Kyle Kushman and Nikki & Swami Chaitanya. We’re California based and deliveries usually take less than 5 days from order to door (allowing for exceptional circumstances, as with the current Covid pandemic). Nobody beats Homegrown for pot seeds online. We deliver and believe we are the best place to buy marijuana seeds online USA.

Many online sellers offering cannabis seeds for sale don’t really understand what they’re selling, they’re simply “moving products.” At Homegrown, we’ve run our breeding programs for two decades – we are our cannabis seeds. We are an authentic, genuine, time-served marijuanna seeds company and we eat, drink and sleep marijuana. Our goal is to deliver a successful cannabis grow for everyone… and anyone.

Whether you’re a beginner looking for tips, guides, information, community and the best starter products or a seasoned grower looking for the best US seed banks, or simply for the best place to buy weed seeds USA, you’re in the right place. Start right here and make sure you get the best cannabis seeds available. You deserve only the best.

Am I getting quality genetics from my cannabis seeds?

If you’re searching the internet for information, watching marijuana youtube channels, visiting marijuana growing forums or looking at other types of media, you’ll likely have heard marijuana breeders talk about “unstable genetics.” This typically means that a cannabis strains origin is unknown, or that the lineage of that seed or strain is of poor genetic quality (often from rushing production, sacrificing the diligent testing of responsible online cannabis seed banks).

Best quality marijuana seeds

Our breeding partners possess state-of-the-art facilities in North America, South America and Europe. With one of the oldest collections of original mothers in the world and proven, stable hybrids, Homegrown offers the best quality marijuana seeds for sale and the largest collection of stable marijuana strains in seed form anywhere in the world. Our library is so extensive, we also produce seeds for many of the most reputable companies on the internet – we won’t name names before you ask!

Make sure when you buy your marijuanaseed online that the brand, the marijuana seed bank or the breeder who produced them can provide details on where the seeds came from (the lineage) and how they were crossed and/or backcrossed. If you cannot gain access to a seed’s history it could be literally anything and the result of poor breeding practices. That won’t give you the best chance of producing a quality, Homegrown crop.

It’s not unusual for an unprofessional or inexperienced breeder to simply cross a male and a female and sell the resulting seeds as a new hybrid strain. In contrast, professional breeders, breeding programs and the best seed banks will put their strains through several generations of backcrossing to stabilize the genetics, ensuring consistent plants that reflect those genetics.

At Homegrown, we do just this. We guarantee you ALWAYS receive marijuana strains you’ll be delighted with. We’ve partnered with the best so you can be sure of one thing – our credibility!

How do marijuana laws affect buying pot seeds?

The law is obviously an important thing to consider before looking for pot seeds for sale or searching for the best place to buy marijuana seeds. You should certainly check the laws in your area regarding which types of cannabis or marijuana products you’re allowed to purchase, as well as any laws about growing weed from seed at home.

The legal status of cannabis products and home-growing marijuana will dictate where and how you buy weed seeds online. If you live in a state where it is legal to grow weed at home and there are not that many restrictions on home growing, you’ll likely be able to buy cannabis directly from your favorite licensed dispensary. In some cases, you may even have the option of buying from a brick-and-mortar retailer or an online retailer. As mentioned earlier, there are weed seed banks that exist outside of the US, and will sell seeds for “souvenir purposes” only. Do note, however, it is technically illegal to bring seeds into the US and Customs will very likely seize any pot seeds that they find in the mail or on an individual opening that mail.

For most Americans, ordering from overseas is not a sensible way of buying marijuana seeds online. Companies that use these tactics to sell seeds online will not be able to legally provide information on the product itself, the genesis of the product, or help you in the event things don’t work out perfectly. These are all things that we consider to be vitally important to our Homegrown customers. While we offer seeds for sale and allow you to order seeds online, our core philosophy at Homegrown Cannabis Co is that we sell expectation. We aim to deliver.

Growing marijuana plants? Make Sure You Plan Ahead.

Whichever way you choose to go about buying your weed seeds, you need to plan ahead before growing marijuana. Here are some of the most important things you’ll need to consider, to ensure your marijuana seed purchase will meet your needs, objectives and, most importantly, your expectations.

How many seeds should I buy? Are they all going to survive?

Irrespective of the cannabis strain you buy, or whether you buy that strain as regular seeds, feminized cannabis seeds, or autoflowering seeds, you should consider how many marijuana plants you’ll want to grow. It’s a great idea, and a good moment, to recheck your local area laws and identify the number of plants you’re legally allowed to grow.

Nature is nature. No matter the stability of the genetics or the quality of a strain, you should always plan on a certain percentage of your feminized seeds failing to germinate, or, and this is far less likely, producing less than perfect plants. Genetic diversity is the foundation of evolution, but you’re far more likely to have a happy surprise than an unpleasant one.

Marijuana seeds have a natural viability rate between 90% and 100%. This is natural selection. You are very, very likely to enjoy a 100% germination rate with your Homegrown weed seeds, but it’s not uncommon to experience a 10% fail rate, or to have a seedling fail. It’s disappointing, sure, but it’s part of life.

Understanding this, you should plan on purchasing more seeds than you think you’ll need from your chosen marijuana seed co. For example, if you want to grow 4 plants, we’d recommend purchasing an 8 pack, if you want to grow 8 plants, we’d recommend a 12 pack. As a general guideline, assume that at least 10% of the seeds you plant will, for one reason or another, not make it to harvest. We’d recommend purchasing up to 2 times the number of seeds. Correctly stored cannabis seeds will last for many years, they won’t go to waste.

If you wish to purchase regular seeds (seeds that will produce, on average, equal numbers of male and female cannabis plants) you need to plan for the males. While the average numbers are 50/50, you could end up with a 100% male or 100% female crop.

A good guide for regular seeds is to purchase up to 4 times the number of female plants you wish to grow. If you want six cannabis plants to harvest for buds and are growing from regular seeds, consider buying up to 24 regular cannabis seeds. Some might not germinate, some will turn out to be male cannabis plants and you’ll want to choose the six best phenotypes from what remains.

The short version here is that, for best results and to ensure minimal frustrations, buy and plant more seeds than the number of mature plants you want to produce. We know that this can put more financial pressure on the beginner grower, but the good news is you can find more than 20 strains in the cheap weed seeds section with our amazing BOGOs.

Where do you want to grow? Indoor or Outdoor?

You’ll need to decide if you will be cultivating your cannabis garden inside or outside. Growing cannabis indoors gives you considerable flexibility, as you’ll be able to control and fine-tune the local environment for your specific plants or strains. This gives you more freedom in terms of which kind of seeds you decide to buy. On the other hand, if you plan on growing outdoors, you’ll likely be well-served spending a little more time looking at the specific traits of the seeds you want to purchase, to ensure they will perform positively in your environment and climate.

Growing marijuana outdoors

The first quarter – or certainly the months of January and February – of the year is the perfect time to start planning your outdoor marijuana garden, to get a head start on the outdoor growing season. To take advantage of the perfect growing conditions, you’ll likely be running an outdoor grow from a given point sometime between March and November although exactly when will be dictated by your geographical location.

Growing marijuana indoors

For indoor grows, the outdoor or ambient conditions obviously play a far lesser part in the decision – the time of year is rarely a big factor for the smaller home grower. Your time is best invested in planning where to locate your indoor marijuana grow and choosing the most appropriate cannabis growing equipment you can find, based on the specifics of your grow area and your budget. Using the best equipment to grow your own marijuana can have dramatic results on the cost of production and can be the difference between a successful and unsuccessful harvest.

Indica, sativa, or hybrid

There is a seemingly endless – yet still growing – variety of marijuana strains available today. The beauty of breeding is that it’s always possible to create something new, even if the differences are subtle or nuanced. Before buying marijuana seeds, you’ll want to be clear on what kind of pot you want to end up with, and this is often determined by the kind of broad, overall effect you want or need.

Indica seeds or indica strains are more likely to deliver physical, bodily effects. They’re often linked to relaxation, sedation or managing pain. Most marijuana products marketed as sleep-aids are indica-dominant. Sativa seeds or sativa strains are usually linked with a more cerebral or mental high that can increase energy, provide a buzzy high and / or are generally mentally stimulating. Hybrid strains, as the name suggests are a mix of both Indica and Sativa traits and will produce a variety of effects, depending on the specific parent strains used to create the hybrid.

Which strain do you want to grow?

Having made a broad choice on the type of cannabis you want to cultivate, you should consider some strain specifics beyond the three general categories of indica, sativa or hybrid. If you are not totally sure which strain you want to grow, or you’re curious to learn about other strains you might not be familiar with, browse through the online catalogs of reputable seed banks and read about the various strains currently available.

A good place to begin narrowing down your ideal strain selection would be to consider some or all of the following.

What is the potency of the strain? If you’re looking to buy seeds to grow a potent plant, you should ask if the strain tends to produce plants with high THC levels or high CBD levels. Usually there is a trade-off between the two.

Are you looking for very productive, mature marijjuana plants? High yield strains can be a great choice but remember: the amount of room required to house them is more than normal. That can be especially important for an indoor grow.

Are you a beginner? If so, you may want to consider autoflowering strains. You don’t need to be an expert to grow autoflowers and we have a huge range – you can browse autoflower seeds usa here. On the other hand, more experienced cultivators may prefer to stick with time-served photoperiod cannabis strains.

Do you want seeds better suited for medical marijuana or recreational marijuana? We have an excellent selection of high cbd seeds available, ideal for medicinal cannabis.

You can also consider other factors such as flavor and aroma, specific desirable effects and budget.

When you’ve decided which strain you want to grow, be sure to do a bit of research to familiarize yourself with the unique growing needs and specifications of that strain. While there are general guidelines for growing any type of cannabis, different strains also have their own specific needs. Similarly, some strains do better in specific parts of the world or climates. You should grow a strain that is well-suited to the growing environment you’ll be creating for your plants.
