This quick keto hemp seed oatmeal is ready in 5 minutes. Hemp seed hearts give this low carb oatmeal a thick texture to replace the oats for a hearty low carb & gluten free breakfast.
If you miss your oatmeal whilst following a low carb diet, this hemp seed porridge with help you through those cold mornings. Oatmeal is not keto friendly as it is a grain, but hemp seed hearts are a great alternative. Hemp hearts, chia seeds and flaxseeds make this a thick hearty cereal with only 5.5g net carbs a bowl.
Also known as “NoOatmeal” this creamy hot breakfast is also grain free, vegan, dairy free and gluten. The high fibre content means it will keep you going all morning too. I just love how it keeps me full all day. It’s now a weekly breakfast for me. The Chief Taster has yet to enjoy a bowl as I made the mistake of telling him that flaxseed was in it. Rookie mistake! Next time, I’ll give it a fancy title and get him to sample it before I tell him what’s in it!
What are Hemp Hearts?
The texture of this low carb oatmeal is mainly due to the use of hemp seed hearts. Hemp hearts are the edible interior of hemp seeds and are a great source of protein. It is a complete protein and provides all the essential amino acids, making it an excellent choice for a keto vegetarian diet. They have a mild nutty flavour and are also great sprinkled on a salad.
I purchase mine from a health food store but just found a cheaper bag in a specialist food store we have on the island. Head to the nuts and seeds section of a store and they should be there.
Are Hemp Seeds Keto?
Hemp seeds are a great addition to a keto diet as they have a good balance of fat and protein and due to their high fibre content are a great low carb ingredient. It’s a powerhouse of a superfood too!

This was amazing! I was looking for a noatmeal recipe that didn’t have a ton of carbs because I’m limiting my carb intake to 20g total per day. This recipe did the trick! Even with the add-ins I put in, the total carb intake per serving was only 7.1 total grams. That’s net 4.2g!
I didn’t use the erythritol and tried adding 5 drops of liquid stevia instead. To be honest it was sweet enough without it, so I won’t add that next time. I used unsweetened almond milk. Instead of the flax seed, I used Linwood’s organic milled flaxseed, almonds, brazil nuts and q10 mix. I also added a tsp. of vanilla essence, a tsp. of cinnamon, 2 tablespoons of blanched almond butter and a tablespoon of coconut oil to increase the fat content as I plan to use this as my predawn meal during Ramadan. It ended up being so yummy and really reminded me of a Filipino dessert called Pitsi Pitsi which is made with grated cassava, lye water and coconut which I’m excited about because I thought I wouldn’t be able to eat that anymore. It also reminds me of mochi! (I let this sit overnight but didn’t add extra liquid so it was a little chewy)
I am also very surprised at how FILLING it is! I ate this to break my fast (16:8) and could only get through a quarter serving before I was full! I couldn’t believe it. It’s been six hours and I’m still full. This is amazing.
Thank you for such an awesome recipe! I’m looking forward to trying different flavor combinations like adding cacao powder and some sliced strawberries, or maybe some different berries. I also love the ziplock bag idea and will be implementing that to make meal prep much easier.

Thank you for your kind review! Delighted you enjoyed it!
A hearty keto hemp seed oatmeal is a hearty low carb breakfast. Quick, easy, ready in 5 minutes and 5.5g net carbs a bowl.
Mixed Nut Hempseed Cereal (Vegan Keto)
Mixed Nut and Hempseed Cereal – This vegan keto cereal will give you all the morning feels as it’s even better than the sugary boxed stuff. I’m so excited for you to give this a go! You and your entire family will be head over heels for this one, promise.
You can look at this as a grain free granola too but cereal sounds better in my opinion. No matter how old I get, I still love a nice big bowl of cereal. And don’t even get me started on the milk afterwards! That’s my fave and this delivers in that department and then some.
The ingredients are easy, simple, and can be found at any grocery store. These star ingredients are: Hempseed’s, Almond Meal, Flax Meal, Macadamia Nuts, Pecans, and Coconut. Um, YUM!
You can add whatever freeze dried fruit you’d like or leave it out. You can use any nuts you’d like too. Make it your own. Did someone say chocolate chips too? Have at it (just make sure they’re vegan and keto friendly if that’s your thing).
I got this recipe from Carolyn of alldayidreamaboutfood and I fell in love with it. I swapped out some ingredients for the vegan version and it still turned out amaze in every way.
Plant Milk Options Are Endless
Use any plant milk you want. I go with unsweetened almond as it’s super keto friendly but you can do oat, soy, hemp even, the choices are endless.
You can even eat it by itself! I love eating dry cereal too, I use to do that with Cheerios (I mean, who hasn’t done that right?!) So good and so good for you! Yaaay! Can you tell how excited I am by my use of exclamation points!? LOL Ok, I’ll simmer down with them.
As a parent (and I think you all can agree with me on this), being able to give my kids good tasting cereal that I know is not ladened with some BS (bull sugar, lol) just makes me happy.
Now I’m not saying we’re all perfect over here and NEVER have boxed cereal. I have a few boxes in the house right now (we love the Organic 365 Peanut Butter and Cocoa Puffs) but it’s not an everyday thing. But hey, if it is your thing no judgements on my end. I’m just here to give you another option to add up in your pantry. We bes cool like that. 🙂
I keep the whole lot of this in a big mason jar or, and this is my favorite, I put a serving of this Mixed Nut and Hempseed Cereal into smaller jars like you see above, single serve, cover them, then serve with milk when ready to eat. I leave this out on the counter. It lasts up to 5-7 days. It’s like grab and go, I love it. It also just makes it easier in the morning when it’s all prepared and ready to go. I know it’s not that hard to add cereal to a bowl either but I just like the idea of doing it this way and being super prepared in the mornings. One less step is easier in my book!
I’m so excited for your morning tomorrow or have it as a snack tonight, whatever you decide, enjoy!
